To test our sailcloth against Hydra-Net, we acquired a piece of Hydra-Net Radial 393 from a sailmaker who was originally supplied from Dimension Polyant in the United States.

Strips of 2" by 18" were cut from this sample, as well as from ours. Jaw width of the testing machine was set to 16". A pre-tension of 14 - 16 N was applied manually, when mounting the strips, and the exact pre-tension was later deducted from each measurement, in order to show true results. A test speed of 20 mm per minute was used.

Of the standard test directions, weft, warp and 45 degree bias, 3 strips were tested and the results shown are an average of these 3 samples. For all other directions only one strip was tested.
